Job Title: Oncology Registered Nurse (RN)**

Job Summary:

An Oncology Registered Nurse (RN) provides specialized care to patients diagnosed with cancer, working closely with oncology teams, including oncologists, radiation therapists, and other healthcare professionals. The RN focuses on delivering comprehensive care, administering treatments, managing symptoms, and providing emotional support to cancer patients and their families throughout the cancer care continuum.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess, plan, and provide individualized nursing care to oncology patients undergoing chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or other cancer treatments.
  • Administer chemotherapy, biotherapy, and other cancer-related medications in accordance with established protocols.
  • Monitor patients for treatment-related side effects, such as nausea, fatigue, pain, or infection, and provide supportive care.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary oncology teams to develop and implement care plans tailored to the patient’s specific needs.
  • Educate patients and families on cancer diagnosis, treatment options, and self-care practices to improve outcomes.
  • Provide emotional support and counseling to patients and their families, addressing the psychological impact of a cancer diagnosis.
  • Assist in managing cancer-related symptoms such as pain, nausea, fatigue, and emotional distress.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of patient care, treatment plans, and progress.
  • Administer supportive therapies, such as blood transfusions, pain management, and other interventions.
  • Serve as an advocate for patients, ensuring access to necessary resources, treatments, and support services.
  • Participate in oncology-specific education, training, and continuing professional development to stay current on cancer care advancements.
  • Monitor lab results, vital signs, and other diagnostic tests to assess the patient’s response to treatment.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, including handling and administering chemotherapy safely.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) accepted.
  • Licensure:
    • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
  • Certification:
    • Oncology Nursing Certification (OCN) preferred.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Experience: Prior experience in oncology nursing, chemotherapy administration, or related fields
