Most travel jobs last 13 weeks. You may also hear them called assignments, contracts, or roles – the title may change but they’re all the same. Some contracts are as short as 8 weeks and they can last up to 26 weeks. Many contracts also get extended. All Wellspring job listings have complete information, including duration. Yes, yes, and yes! We often have Travelers that have a partner that travels with them as well as clinicians that travel together. We are well versed in finding jobs and placing travel partners at the same facility. Bringing the people who brighten your life can transform your travel assignment into a shared adventure!
You can absolutely take a travel assignment close to home! Whether you will be eligible for stipends will depend on how close you live to your job. Most facilities set a number for the minimum number of miles a clinician must live from the facility to qualify as a traveler, and the IRS has rules about what qualifies for non-taxed reimbursements. Getting Started With Wellspring Nurse Source
Here’s what is needed to work with Wellspring. Please note, each facility may have its own requirements, too.
1. One year of recent clinical experience in your specialty
- An active license in your primary state of residence — your recruiter can help you with this
- American Heart Association certifications – ACLS or BLS (this varies by specialty/facility)
4. Ability and willingness to work a full-time travel job — at least 36 hours a week

Here is the information that you will need to get started:
1. Your latest resume or your work history information. If you don’t have a resume, you can enter the facility names and dates in the portal and it builds one for you.
- Information about your education: Institution name, City, State, Degree, Graduation Date
- Check your profile completion progress in your dashboard. You want to get it complete so you’re ready to apply as soon as your dream job gets released!

Every traveler is set up with a WNS Success Team which includes both a credentialing and payroll specialist. Our team will guide you through every step of credentialing, filling out and submitting your HR docs, day one instructions, timekeeping and payroll instructions, and benefits enrollment.
Yes! Your recruiter will discuss benefits with you and what type of coverage you need. Benefits start day 1, so you will receive the forms to sign up when you are going through the onboarding process. We can also help you complete your profile, and get you set up in our online portal so you can apply to our vetted travel jobs with one click of a button.
Wellspring Travel Clinicians are employees. That means we withhold and pay your income taxes, and you are eligible to join our medical, dental and vision plans with coverage starting Day 1 of your contract. As an employee, we also have an employer funded Short Term Disability Plan and Life Insurance which is completely free for our Travelers. Please contact one of our Pro Recruiters for more details.
It’s up to you! That’s why we let you filter your WNS job search by start date. Apply months in advance if you’re a planner or seize a role that starts in days if you’re adventure ready. We strongly recommend you keep your profile and certifications current so it’s ready whenever you are!
Short answer, no. To ensure your success and that you’re able to best meet the demands of your travel job, we recommend you have 6-12 months of recent experience in the specialty you’re applying for. If you’re interested in changing specialties, we recommend building your skill set in a staff position before taking your talent on the road.

Things To Know On Assignment
Wellspring Travel Clinicians are paid weekly via direct deposit. You enter your hours via our online portal so it’s quick, easy, and convenient! Here’s an extra tip for you: not all agencies pay weekly so if you’re exploring opportunities with another agency, make sure to ask how often they pay!
Even if you travel solo, you won’t be alone with Wellspring Nurse Source. Your recruiter and Success Team are always a click, call, or text away. Clinical issues? Your success team also includes a clinical support specialist. Know that we stand behind you, we support you, and we advocate for you.
Orientation varies by facility. On-site orientation covers unit orientation, compliance training, and more. It should leave you feeling informed and prepared for success. If you have unanswered questions or need support, you can always reach out to your WNS Clinician Success Team.
Wellspring travel assignments range from 36 – 48 hours/week depending on their contract. Guaranteed hours/call-offs vary by facility and will be covered in your contract. Your pro recruiter can answer any other questions!
Your WNS Clinician Success Team is there to hold your hand through every step on your travel adventure and provide any help we can to find housing.
Wellspring does not provide agency housing. Instead, our travelers get a generous stipend and any help needed to get settled. This gives you the freedom to live where you want and lets you pocket any leftover money, too! Agency-provided housing, on the other hand, is deducted from your paycheck. Either way, you pay for your living arrangements but you have more flexibility with a housing stipend.
Travel Nurse Licensing Information
You can check whether your license is compact through Nursys. This database will give you verification of your nurse licensure, practice privileges, and compact status.
Your ability to apply for a compact license is determined by your primary state of residence.
- You must declare a compact state as your primary state of residence to be eligible for a multistate license.
- If you are licensed in a compact state, you can check what states you’re licensed to work in through Nursys.
- If you are licensed in a non-compact state and want to work in a compact state, you must apply for that state’s license. You do not qualify for a compact license.
- If you are licensed in a state with pending legislation, you’ll have to wait until the legislation passes to apply.

A compact nursing license gives you practicing privileges in participating compact states without having to apply for a separate license in each. This license saves money and time while opening the doors to travel jobs in participating states.
The current Compact States include Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Washington*, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
*Nurses holding a compact license in other NLC states may practice in Washington. However, Washington residents cannot obtain a multistate license until NLC implementation is complete.
If your primary state of residence is a compact state and you want to work in a non-compact state, you must apply for that state’s license.
